Novel: Beyond the Monsoon Mountains

Beyond the Monsoon Mountains is a historical novel about war and the bonds of love and sisterhood in the little-known diaspora of Portuguese India. Steeped in South Indian mythology and based on first-hand research into my own community history, Beyond the Monsoon Mountains explores exile, female power, and trauma across generations.

Short Story Collection: Shadow People

The protagonists of the interlinked short story collection Shadow People are Indian, Mexican, Guyanese, Puerto Rican, and Chinese migrant workers barely surviving in Bloomberg’s New York City. A free-spirited yellow cab driver finds herself saddled with a traditional fellow migrant who she rescues from domestic violence. A construction worker wonders if a pyramid scheme can help him save money to return to his children in Mexico. An aspiring dancer turned bicycle delivery worker seeks revenge on the neighborhood kids who rob him. The ten stories in this collection explore the dashed hopes and isolation of migrant laborers, as well as the struggle to find connection in multi-racial spaces.
